You
decide to ask the she-wolf for help, and she pushes herself up into a sitting
position. You notice the muscles rolling beneath her skin as she does so. They
are far more defined than those of any other female Wolf-Born you have ever
seen - evidence that she has spent a far greater time building her strength and
endurance than you could have ever dreamed of while you were living among the
humans.
For a brief moment, her eyes flicker away from you, looking at the sky, and
your eyes follow hers. The sky is overcast, and a storm is definitely
approaching. And by the looks of it, you won't like the storm.
"Very
well. What is it you need help with?" the she-wolf asks you.
Food and water, as well as shelter from the approaching storm, are what you
need right now.
You ask the she-wolf if she can spare some food, and to accentuate your hunger,
your stomach growls fiercely with hunger.
She pushes herself off, and lands next to you.
"Let's go. My name is ‘Shadow’, by the way.”
You follow the she-wolf as she leads you through the mountains, and finally,
you've come to a small cave which must be her place. The scent of a recently
killed deer is mouthwatering, and when she gives you the go, you dig into your
meal.
In the corner of your eyes, you see Shadow shift into her human form and crouch
down to kindle a fire. You can’t
help but notice that her transformation from her wolf form to her human form is
surprisingly fluent. Within minutes, a fire casts an orange glow at the walls
of the cave and warms you to your core.
After you've satiated your hunger, you sit back to study the now-human
Wolf-Born.
Her hair, like in her wolf form, is a deep black, like ebony. Her eyes however,
don't show the unsettling scarlet colour anymore. Instead, they're a deep
brown, with a small hint of orange, although this could be a trick of light.
A brassard, a sturdy piece of cloth that human officers of certain ranks often
wear for identification, is wrapped around her left upper arm. It shows a Red
Cross, marking her as a medic, or otherwise as Red Cross personnel in war-zone
areas.
Or she could be hiding something beneath it.
Now that you've filled your belly and have a warm place to wait out the storm,
you have plenty of time to ask your questions to the she-wolf.
