You’re not sure if she’s already part of a pack, but you
can’t scent any other wolves around this place, so the chances are big that
she’s a lone wolf. But this is no
ordinary Wolf-Born.
Even in her human form, you can feel the quiet power emanating from her. And if her upper armband is indeed a mark of her medical skill and knowledge, she would be quite handy to have around.

She would make for a great pack member.
You hesitate for only a brief moment, and then, you open
your mouth to ask your question.
“Would you be interested in forming a pack with me?”
The Wolf-Born glances at you, studying you. An uncomfortable silence settles between you, before she opens her mouth to speak.

“Thanks.. But I have to decline. I am a lone wolf, I
don’t really join packs.”
And then, she looks at the mouth of the cave. Outside,
the storm is still razing the land, and it’s becoming dark now.
“Besides..” She softly continues, and you glance at her.
“I was asked to take care of the newcomers here..
Newcomers such as you.”
You’re a little confused at her words, and she smiles,
seeing your confusion.
“I’ve seen you glance at the brassard. It is true that I
was a medic when I was still a part of the human world. I trained to become a
doctor, and researched endocrine diseases during my medical training. But in
secret, I also researched Wolf-Born physiology.” She says. “As a result of my
knowledge of Wolf-Born physiology, I am more powerful than I should be,
especially for my age. This, coupled with my medical training, makes it easier
for me to track the newcomers such as you down, and to nurse them back to
health a little.”
The Wolf-Born glances at you, studying you.

“Most Wolf-Born don’t even make it here.. And those who
do, are often in a bad shape. Worse than yourself. They need medical attention,
food, and shelter, and I’m here to provide it. Furthermore, it is also my responsibility to keep overly aggressive specimens out. I am the so-called 'Gatekeeper' of this land. This is why I cannot join a
pack, even if I felt like it.”
“Can’t you quit this.. ‘Job’ of yours?” You ask her,
feeling hopeful.
She snorts. “Of course. No one ever forced me to do this.
But a good friend of mine asked me to do this, and of all the Wolf-Born here in
this country, I am best fit to do this. I’m fine with doing this.”
You
nod, accepting her answer. It’s a pity she won’t join your pack, but maybe
you’ll find someone else who will join your pack.
